Mission
Crossbow Authority exists for people trying to make sense of a crowded, jargon-heavy market: beginners buying their first crossbow, experienced shooters comparing gear side by side, and anyone who wants a straight answer on what a spec sheet number actually means. The goal is a resource worth returning to, not a pile of pages built to rank for a keyword.
Alongside reviews and guides, the site keeps a glossary of specifications and jurisdiction-specific legal information pages that carry a “last checked” date and cite official sources, plus the policies below.
Editorial philosophy
I write in a practical, evidence-based tone and stay away from unsupported superlatives like “the best crossbow ever made.” When I recommend a product, I explain the criteria behind that recommendation and say plainly who it will not suit. A commercial relationship with a brand never decides what gets written about its product.
Review methodology
Every crossbow review follows the same core protocol: zero the scope, shoot strings over a chronograph with a stated bolt weight, shoot groups at stated distances, and assess the cocking method and effort. Scopes, bolts and accessories get tests suited to the product, and each review's Performance & Usability section and Final Score table state what was done for that product.
Every review is scored against published criteria; the overall rating is the average of the category scores divided by two (see the testing methodology):
- Speed and energy, with manufacturer-rated figures clearly labelled as such
- Accuracy potential and sighting system
- Build quality, ergonomics and included components
- Ease of cocking and use, including noise and vibration where relevant
- Warranty terms and important limitations
- Value relative to alternatives
Figures published by the manufacturer and anything measured independently are always kept separate, and specifications are cited to their source. Every reviewed product has been shot by the author; where a specific figure has not been measured directly, the article says so rather than presenting it as tested. - Inclusion, rankings and scores follow the published criteria; placement is not for sale.
- Original writing that aims to answer the reader's question completely, not pad it out for length.
- Specifications are sourced and dated; prices are shown as approximate, since they change often.
- Safety first: this site does not publish instructions intended to harm people or animals.

Update policy
Every article shows its last-updated date. Articles get revisited when manufacturer specifications, pricing, availability or regulations change, with a target of reviewing everything at least once a year. Legal pages also carry a separate “last checked” date, since those sources move faster than product specifications do.
Corrections policy
Spot an error? Email corrections@crossbowauthority.com. Reports are investigated, confirmed errors are corrected promptly, and any material correction is noted on the article along with the date it was made. Ratings and conclusions are never changed quietly.
